Commercial headshots are commercials for you. You need to come across as positive, friendly, warm, someone I can sit down and have coffee with to discuss my home insurance, or the car I’m thinking of purchasing. This tone comes from your smile, your eyes, your demeanour.

Don’t fake it. People can spot a fake smile from across the Atlantic. So use your acting skills, get into a positive state of mind and let your photographer help set the environment for a fun, enjoyable, happy session – then let your natural smile shine through. If you’re not having fun during the session, try and change your mood – the images will improve by leaps and bounds if it all stems from within.

Wardrobe
Similar to make-up (see below). Don’t go over-the-top – this isn’t a fashion shoot. What are we selling again – that’s right – you. So don’t let the hero of the shot be the outrageous but super-cool jacket your just bought and had to wear, nobody is hiring you because of the jacket – you need to fit the concept. Neutral/semi-bold works best, no logos or distractions.
